Balancing Act

Khayelitsha township, Cape Town, South Africa

This installation was left in Khayelitsha, a township in Cape Town, last year. The settlement is home to around 500,000 people and experiences many problems such as poverty, crime and a high rate of HIV infection - an estimated 16% of the population. Life can be tough, especially for children.

This image will be available to purchase from my shows with a percentage of the proceeds going to Baphumelele, a community project in Khayelitsha that aims to help local children. Specifically the money will be used in projects that help children who have been affected by HIV/AIDS - Clemens Cares For Kids which helps children suffering from HIV/AIDS and Baphumelele Children's Home which looks after children who have been orphaned or abandoned.

Slinkachu Workshop

To celebrate the launch of my new book 'Global Model Village', Pan Macmillan are holding a Slinkachu workshop at Rich Mix in East London this Sunday 23rd September.

Under the watchful eyes of design collective Craft Guerilla and myself, you can try your hand at creating your own miniature installations with the varied materials available, exploring how you feel about life in the big city.

Take your works out on to the streets of East London, photograph them and twitter the results #slinkachuLondon or upload to - my favorite image of the day will win a deluxe edition of the book wihch comes with a signed mini-print!

I will also be signing books that will be available at the event and after you are finished making and shooting, you can kick back with a drink too. Should be fun!
